News from RPA : Discharge letter : Caesarean section births

]]>From the 21st May 2012 this Caesarean Section: Discharge Letter will be given to all public patients who have had an elective or emergency caesarean section at RPA. This letter will be discussed with the woman prior to discharge by the ward registrar. Entries on the form can only be made by registrar. The last entry on the letter is to outline whether the vaginal birth after caesarean section (VBAC) is an option in a subsequent pregnancy. If there are contra-indications to a VBAC this will be outlined.

A copy of this letter will be sent to the GP and a copy of the letter will be inserted in the medical record.

VMOs have the option of using this letter and may fill it out accordingly. Junior medical staff will not be using this letter on women who have a private obstetrician.

]]>As the flu season will soon be here, GPs should familiarise themselves with the RANZCOG statement regarding “Influenza vaccination for pregnant women”.

It is anticipated that the flu vaccination will be administered at the GP visit. When the vaccination has been given, please document on the “yellow card” next to “Investigations” (above Hep B,C HIV Information) or circle Y/N if card is stamped with ” Flu Vax”.

Access To Allied Psychologist Services (ATAPS) Perinatal Depression: plenty of referrals left!

]]>Have you considered referring your financially disadvantaged patients with perinatal depression for free counselling services through ATAPS?

ATAPS funding is available up until 30 June 2012.

The advantages of a referral through the ATAPS program as opposed to the Medicare-funded program are as follows:

ATAPS provides 12 sessions with a psychologist instead of 10 sessions via the Medicare-funded program
There are no gap payment for ATAPS - whereas there is often one associated with Medicare-funded program
ATAPS provides a maximum 18 sessions per calendar year. Medicare-funded program provides a maximum 16 sessions per calendar year.

]]>From March 12th 2012, first trimester screening results issued by the RPA Fetal Medicine Department will include:

(where possible) assessment of the fetal nasal bone for aneuploid screening 2) prediction of risk for pre-eclampsia.
