Close the Gap - immunisation schedule poster

Lisa Maude, Immunisation, Intellectual Disability Officer - Friday 01 July, 2011

By the time Aboriginal children are ready for school they have generally received their vaccinations.  However the problem with vaccination schedules and Aboriginal children is compliance with the schedule. The problem for immunisation providers is tracking children through medical records, Medicare and ACIR.

In order to try and address this, CSGPN’s Close the Gap program and Immunisation program worked together with GPNSW to design a new schedule poster. The poster has been designed to represent Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander colours with photographs of local children at different ages. The poster not only covers the immunisation schedule but also outlines developmental milestones and recommended times for health checks.

We are really proud of this poster as consumer research we have conducted indicates that it will be a valuable resource to all practices. The general response has been that it is great to have a resource that has Indigenous children representing the whole community.
