Prevent Diabetes - Live Life Well program is winding down

John Mulley, Transition team Officer - Wednesday 01 June, 2011

The Prevent Diabetes - Live Life Well program is winding down now. The program is due to finish at the end of June and staff are still finishing off the last of the 12 month reviews and collecting the last little bits of data and generally tying off all the loose ends.

Many people are asking us if the program has worked or not. We are very eager to know the results as well but until all the 12 month reviews are completed, the evaluation team will not have a full data set to analyse. Subjectively, there are many people doing very well and feel that the program has helped them change their lives. There are also many people who have struggled to make any significant changes to their exercise and eating habits. Of course, there are also many people in the middle who have made some good changes but still have more changes they would like to make. This is no surprise to anyone. But how many people have made enough changes to really decrease their risk of develop- ing diabetes?

We have to wait for the evaluation team to tell us that. There may be some preliminary results available soon and we look forward to presenting them to you as they become available.

For those of you who really must know the answer, it is 42 (Adams, D. 1979).
