Student nurse placements in general practice

Julie McLean, CPD Facilitator Officer - Wednesday 01 June, 2011

CSGPN is once again facilitating student nurse placements in general practice.

Sydney University students are looking for general practice placements between June and July for a 2 week placement. The feedback from CSGPN practices hosting student nurses from both Notre Dame and Sydney Universities was very positive. The universities provide a two hour orientation program for the practice nurse and the student brings their own work book. The placements attract a small amount of remuneration for the practice nurse mentoring the student during the placement.  If you are interested or would like more information on this initiative please contact Julie on 8752 4905 or email jmclean@csgpn.com.au.

Nurses have you considered further training in general practice nursing? There are many courses available both online and face to face, mental health nursing, immunisation, well women’s, wound management and diabetes management/education to name a few. Many of these courses will also then provide the support for you to set up a nurse led clinic in that area.

Nurse led clinics enable a systematic process for providing care to your patients, supports timely management of care provision as well as management of the nurse time. CSGPN practice nurses are implementing nurse led clinics in the areas of immunisation and chronic disease management. If you or your practice is interested in further information or support with the implementation of a nurse led clinic please contact Julie on 8752 4905 or email jmclean@csgpn.com.au.
